A lead-zinc-silver camp above High Ore Creek that shipped roughly $20 million in ore before the mine closed for good in 1941; dozens of weathered frame houses and the huge collapsing mill terrace remain. The site sits on private grazing land with one occupied residence but is traditionally open to respectful public access via a graded gravel road off I-15 between Basin and Boulder. State cleanup in the 1990s dealt with the worst mine-waste toxicity; stay out of the sagging mill and cabins and leave everything in place.
