Site of the 1878 silver strike that produced the 'Bridal Chamber,' one of the richest single silver pockets ever found; the town died with the 1893 silver crash and lost its last resident in 1994. The BLM maintains it as the Lake Valley Historic Townsite with a caretaker, restored schoolhouse museum, and a self-guided walking tour — typically open Thursday through Monday, free. Paved highway access off NM-27 makes this one of the easiest legitimate ghost-town visits in the Southwest.
