The futuristic 1982 solar-powered dome house off Marco Island, long Florida's most photographed offshore ruin, was finally destroyed by Hurricane Ian in September 2022 — the domes toppled into the Gulf and today only pilings and submerged shells remain, included here as a historically major lost site. The location is reachable only by boat or paddle across open water, and tour boats still visit the spot. Hazards are marine: strong currents, shifting shoals, and submerged concrete debris for anyone snorkeling the wreckage.
