This 1923 Gothic complex in Detroit's LaSalle Gardens survived the 1967 unrest that started blocks away, closed as Martyrs of Uganda parish in 2006, and was then stripped to a hauntingly bare sanctuary beloved by photographers. A four-hour fire on June 3, 2025 destroyed the rectory, though firefighters saved the main church; the owner still holds an approved $14.5 million residential conversion plan that had not broken ground. Post-fire structural instability, collapsed plaster, and open floors make the interior seriously hazardous, and the arson investigation has brought police attention to the property.
