Deep in the Angelina National Forest, the graffiti-covered concrete shells of the Aldridge Sawmill (1905-1920s) are all that remain of a longleaf-pine boomtown that died when the timber ran out. The site is legal to visit via a 2.5-mile hike from Boykin Springs or a rough forest road, and the Forest Service manages it as a historic site. The unmaintained walls are fragile and climbing them is both prohibited and a real fall hazard; expect isolation and no cell service.
