New Orleans' hulking riverfront power station generated electricity from 1905 to 1973 and has since become the city's most famous industrial ruin and a magnet for illegal exploration. It is privately owned by Cypress Equities, fenced and monitored, and a July 2025 proposal would convert it into a 5,000-seat music venue — until then it remains sealed and blighted. Inside are open shafts, failing catwalks, asbestos, and post-Katrina structural damage; security and NOPD respond to trespassers.
