Fort Macomb

MilitaryHard difficulty● Red hazardLouisiana

An 1822 brick fort guarding Chef Menteur Pass east of New Orleans, Fort Macomb was abandoned by 1871 and famously played 'Carcosa' in True Detective. It is owned by the State of Louisiana and closed to the public because its casemates and arches are actively collapsing; the only sanctioned views are from the water on kayak and boat tours. Unstable masonry, hidden voids, snakes, and alligators back up the no-entry rule.
