Elkmont Historic District

ResidentialEasy difficulty● Green hazardTennessee

A logging town turned 1920s resort colony inside Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Elkmont was abandoned when residents' leases expired in 1992; the NPS has since demolished most structures but restored about 19 buildings in the Appalachian Club's 'Daisy Town,' with lone chimneys marking the rest. It is a fully legal, signed park attraction with a campground next door, famous for its synchronous firefly displays each June (lottery access). Hazards are minimal — just stay out of the few structures still awaiting stabilization.
