Brick railroad tunnel from 1856 that outlived the vanished mining hamlet of Moonville, deep in Vinton County's Zaleski forest country, and famous for its brakeman-ghost legend. The rail line was abandoned in 1988 and the corridor is now the volunteer-built Moonville Rail Trail, with the tunnel fully open to walkers and an annual 'Midnight at Moonville' festival. Access is legal and free via a short walk from the parking area on Hope-Moonville Road; the main real-world hazards are the remote location, spotty cell service, and crossing Raccoon Creek where old bridges are missing.
