The flagship Borscht Belt resort outside Ellenville closed in 2009 and became the Catskills' definitive modern ruin — tower hotel, empty pools, and decaying ice rink. Its condition has cratered: a March 2024 fire destroyed the historic winter lodge and a suspicious January 2025 blaze gutted most of the main building including the lobby and dining room. Owner Somerset Partners (purchased 2023) plans full demolition and a new lodging-plus-housing development, so what remains is a fire-weakened, actively monitored demolition site. Floors and roofs here can no longer be trusted at all.
