The hulking 1950s ward tower on Creedmoor's Queens Village campus has sat vacant since the mid-1970s and is infamous for its top floors buried under decades-deep pigeon guano — a genuine histoplasmosis hazard, not an aesthetic one. The building still stands as of 2025, sealed and tagged with FDNY unsafe-building markings on an active state hospital campus with security. Its days are numbered: New York released an RFP in December 2025 for the first phase of a 125-acre Creedmoor redevelopment, with vacant buildings slated for demolition.
